Jubilee party and tickets

Sitting here at the computer typing this little piece with the sun shining in through the window it’s easy to imagine a sunny, summer’s afternoon spent with friends and neighbours in the enclosure behind the Village Hall.  From my deckchair I can feel a gentle breeze blowing as I relax with a cool drink after eating lunch from the delicious barbeque cooked by Matthew and helpers.  The children are all busy burning off excess energy and having a great time.

So, if the biggest queue you want to wait in this bank holiday is the queue for one of our fabulous ‘Jubilee’ milkshakes from our Milkshake Bar then make sure you save the date – Monday 4th June from 12pm.

This is a free event for all residents of Little Gransden so all you need to bring is your tickets (more on how to get these in a moment) your picnic blankets, deckchairs and a bottle or two (if required).  Join friends and neighbours at Little Gransden Village Hall from midday on Monday 4th June to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee.

The enclosure to the rear of the hall will be transformed into a sports field for the occasion.  There will be running races for all ages and abilities, a three-legged race, egg & spoon and a tug-of-war competition.

The afternoon will commence with a toast to her Majesty, then a local photographer will be on hand to record the day by taking a giant group photograph of all the villagers – this we hope will be framed & displayed alongside others in the village hall.

After lunch the afternoon’s races will begin.  These are not just for the young but we hope the young-at-heart too!  So, get practising your three-legged skills, your egg balancing and of course why not get a tug-of-war team together.  Medals will be presented to the winners.

Whilst we are in the presenting mood, all village children 16 and under will be presented with a memento of the day in the form of a commemorative china mug.  A very limited edition of these Jubilee mugs have been produced and they will not be available at any other time.

There will of course be a raffle – well it wouldn’t really be a village event without a raffle, would it!

During May you will receive an invitation with a tear-off form to be returned to Ann at 2 Church Walk, Little Gransden by 14 May.  We will exchange your slip for the correct number of tickets. (If we are not home pop your slip through the letterbox and we will deliver your tickets.)

If you have friends or family visiting you who do not live in Little Gransden they too are welcome to join us but we ask you to buy them a ticket for £5.00 each, to cover the cost of their barbeque lunch – our budget is tiny and cannot stretch to any ‘extras’.

Everyone on the Jubilee committee has given their time and efforts freely to make this event a success for everyone, so do come along and join in with the spirit of the day.

See you on the 4th June.
