Little Gransden Parish Council makes a small donation to St Neots Museum - so that residents can normally visit for free.
This year, the museum has concentrated on making a variety of online resources - local history - rubber ducks, the St Neots quads, and for this spring an online art exhibition.
4th March – 1st May 2021
Our temporary exhibition programme has gone digital, and our first exhibition this year is showcasing exciting new works by local artist, sk172.
A selection of powerful new works by them will be on display on our website under the heading of Collections, or just follow the link to Exhibitions from our web page. https://www.stneotsmuseum.org.uk
All works are for sale.
Curator Liz Davies writes:
From the cool cat in Brulėe2 to portraits and abstract montages sk172 work explores themes of urban life and alienation in a dramatic and vibrant way. Often referencing the late American neo-expressionist artist Jean-Michel Basquiat their work is powerful and direct.
Drawing has always been my friend since a very young age, always been scrawling and scribbling away in sketchbooks, since I can remember. Back then, more often than not, just drawings from watching cartoons like Ghostbusters, Transformers, MASK and Thundercats. The whole thing tying my art together, revolves around influences I have all around me - Jazz music, technology, hip-hop. African masks on my walls, other artists prints I have including Picasso, Basquiat and Warhol, also influence me, especially the African masks, and the vibrant colours in African art. The writing of my favourite author Philip K. Dick is also an inspiration. He was well ahead of his time and his visions of a dystopian future resonates with me and if you look carefully, you’ll see a mouse pointer, in all my paintings! That is just my nod towards Sci-Fi and all things technological.
